Orange Goblin- Healing through Fire
(Mayan Records MYNDX058)

From Aural Innovations #37 (Sep 2007)

Ok.. Orange Goblin is back with another mean motherfucker… I have not much liked the last couple of OG records but this one is really back on track and see the band experimenting with some bluesy stuff and coming up with some great stoner metal things that have a kick ass groove to them. A bit like Dozer at times, perhaps.. The Ballad of Solomon Eagle starts the CD off and you know it is OG right away. Some nice guitar jams in this one with good harmony guitars and a killer groove. Vagrant Stomp is a real headbanger! The Ale House Braves has one of those Clutch like grooves to it and then even go into a section much like Communication Breakdown by Zeppelin. Cities of Frost is the heaviest track on the record and really blasts… Hot Knives and Open Sores is quite a lot in the same vein as the previous track but Hounds Ditch shows a more growly aggressive side of the band. Mortlake is a short acoustic piece that leads into They Come Back (Harvest of Skulls). This track becomes quite like Slayer in the middle section. Beginners Guide to Suicide ends the CD and this is my favourite track as is a slow doomy blues number with slide, harmonica and something completely different.
