MASTERMIND SIGNS WITH LION MUSIC

View online & comment: mastermindband.com/blog/?p=30

December 18th is Mastermind guitarist Bill Berends birthday! On this auspicious occasion we would like to make a very big announcement…

MASTERMIND has signed with LION MUSIC of Finland to release the long awaited INSOMNIA album!! Our first album for the label, "Insomnia" will be released on February 19th 2010. This is our first full length studio album in many years and features vocalist Tracy McShane joining founding members Bill Berends (guitars, synths, bass) and Rich Berends (drums) along with Jens Johansson (Stratovarius) once again contributing keyboard solos and piano.

We are all very pleased with this development and hope those of you reading will help spread the news far and wide, Mastermind is back! And to add to this wonderful news, the band has been rehearsing with bassist Tim Spillane preparing for live performances in support of the album release. As some may recall, Tim played bass with Mastermind in 2001 performing at our NJ Proghouse & Pittsburgh shows with Symphony-X amongst others. Welcome back Tim!

The Insomnia album also features the bass talents Chris Eike & Greg Hagen.

Visit lionmusic.com for more information about the release. Happy birthday indeed! A wonderful way to start a new year!

PSYCH TRAIL MIX ZINE NOW ONLINE
www.helioschrome.com/psychtrailmix.html

After 3 printed issues Psych Trail Mix has gone online, making all issues available in PDF format. Here's the info from publisher Brent Marley:

I started Psych Trail Mix zine back in the winter of 2008 and have done it ever since. It's something that I wanted to do to just get things out of me! For one thing, I loved music so much that I wanted to write about it, review it, explore it further, talk with others who are into the particular genres that I enjoy, and to create something of my own in appreciation for it. It's been an amazing creative outlet that has let me communicate with other like-minded individuals who are into the psychedelic genre and all the great things that come with it. Psychedelia isn't just a kind of music, or a passing fad, it's a whole THING. There's a lot to it. At first I printed them out myself and mailed them out completely free of any sort of charge. This went on for the first 2 issues. Then the 3rd issue I had to charge for shipping costs. Now. through talking with others who had a printed zine to start, I figured "PRINT YOUR OWN ZINE" might be the best way to go. This allows you to view the zine in PDF format and hopefully, PRINT IT if you'd like to. I hope that now, being web-based and COMPLETELY FREE that I will bring in even more readers. I hope you enjoy Psych Trail Mix. If any of you would like to communicate, I love to hear from readers, so I highly encourage it. Please contact me at psychtrailmix@yahoo.com with comments. Thanks!

October 24, 2009

Regarding the announcement below. Mastermind were one of the first bands I discovered through the internet in the early 1990s. They evolved a bit through the years but the first two albums, which are being offered for free streaming, are total monsters for heavy, guitar driven rock with an intricate progressive edge. I love these albums and encourage you to check them out. And if you like them, there's lots of other Mastermind albums available through their web site.

Jerry

Mastermind October 2009 Newsletter

Greetings all!

Many of you have been fans of Mastermind for a long time, yet we are aware others have only come to know us from our last few releases and various live appearances. Over time our earlier albums have been getting harder to find on CD, so to recap the history of the band you can now listen to our first two studio albums in their entirety, absolutely free!

MASTERMIND Volume One
mastermind.bandcamp.com/album/mastermind-volume-one

MASTERMIND Volume Two "Brainstorm"
mastermind.bandcamp.com/album/mastermind-volume-two-brainstorm

This is heavy prog-rock from the original power trio lineup with lots of guitar & synthesizer action. Our starting point and still the favorite era for some fans. Yet as I said lots of folks haven't heard this stuff before, so if you like what you hear spread the word, tell a friend, write a review, publish a link!

Bandcamp is a new music platform with downloads in any format you choose… mp3, AAC, FLAC, Ogg, Apple Lossless, etc. Of course we hope you decide you can’t live without it and snag a copy for your iPod or burn a CD (Apple Lossless and FLAC files render 100% CD quality) and album downloads come with full color printable pdf cover art. There’s an option to set at any price above the minimum if you want to show your appreciation. If not, you can still listen online as much as you like, no strings attached.

Click the SHARE link to embed little players anywhere too. There are some free tracks in there if you look for them. We just want you to hear the music. More to come!

Also, there's a new video of "The Ride of the Valkyrie" from the Live in Tokyo album now on youtube...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNpTAvjMdn4

This is all leading to something new & fantastic, so hang with us!
