Iggy And The Stooges - "Raw Power Live: In The Hands Of The Fans"
(MVD Audio, MVD5179LP, 180gm LP)

From Aural Innovations #43 (October 2011)

This live gig took place on September 3, 2010 at the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival. Don't you simply love these current retrospect tours (I guess that's what some call them)? I mean when a long-running band takes a classic album and plays the LP in it's entirety while out on tour. On this vinyl pick, the reunited Stooges play the whole Raw Power album plus I Got A Right. I mean - what true Iggy & The Stooges fan could possibly ask for more? Sound quality is great, but do keep in mind that I haven't heard a vinyl LP in a while. It was a blast hearing the total ass-kicking Raw Power, the apocalyptic Search And Destroy, the almost humorous (at times) You're Pretty Face Is Going To Hell, Death Trap and a couple of Stooges songs that many fans may not hear everyday - the deep album cut Shake Appeal and the occasionally-played in-your-face Penetration. Line-up: Iggy Pop - vocals, James Williamson - guitar, Mike Watt - bass, Steve Mackay - sax and Scott Asheton - drums. Every bit as power-packed as the Iggy & The Stooges - Telluric Chaos CD - (see review in AI #33). The only downside of this must-have vinyl choice is that it isn't available on CD, at least not as an actual physical copy. It's duration is 37:25. I saw where the label MVD is soon releasing a DVD of the same title but with a much lengthier running time. Would make a nice gift for any old school punk fan, record collector or Stooges enthusiast.
