FISH- Amager Bio, København 10/10/07

From Aural Innovations #38 (Jan 2008)

This is a show where I really had no idea what to expect. I have FISH’s first two solo records, the first I really liked the 2nd, I did not. He has made about 10 now so I had no clue what his music might be like now. I met up with Alex who has seem him many times and says he is very good. THIs was the 20th anniversary tour for the Marillion- Clutching at Straws record, which is my favorite record by them so I knew we would hear most if not all of that record and we did.

There was no opening act and the show started right at 20:10 and he played for about 2 hrs with encores. The show started with a short film going thru all of the years up to the present with some recorded music and quite funny stuff. Slainte, the Marillion song from Clutching opened the show and people were into it. They had films going along to each song, making me think they probably play the same set every night. Next were some new songs from the 13th Star CD (it was overpriced so I did not get it). These were quite good and some heavy guitar riffs and potent lyrics as always. Perception was really great. Besides one more new song, Dark Star and the title track from his first solo record, the rest was from Clutching at Straws. All very well performed and you could tell he was having a great time as well. He still sings really great and is a real performing. HE liked to joke and banter back and forth with the audience. A real funny part when some girl seem to think that he was fancing her and he assured the audience he found her quite unattractive… A really good concert and great sound… I will see him again for sure.

Set List: Slainte, Circle Line, So Fellini, Square Go, Perception, Mancimal, Hotel Hobbies, Warm Wet Circles, That time of the Night, Dark Star, Sugar Mice, Vigil in the Wilderness of Mirrors (Full version), White Russian, Cliché, Incommunicado, Last Straw
