The Setting Son- The Setting Son
(Bad Afro Records 2007)

From Aural Innovations #37 (Sep 2007)

The Setting Son is a new Danish band lead by singer- songwriter ascetic Sebastian Kristiansen. He is backed by several Danish musicians on this record that was recorded at the Black Tornado studios and produced by Lorenzo from Baby Woodrose, who also plays drums, percussion and adds some vocals. The CD is more like an EP with 14 songs in only 32 minutes. Sebastian has quite a unique voice and reminds me of Sky Saxon of the Seeds, at least the style. The Seeds and the Music Machine are clear influences and a comparison with some of the more 60’s psych stuff of Baby Woodrose is not far off either. If you are a fan of real late 60’s psych, you will probably dig this a lot. There are a few tracks that really stand out and blew me away, like Le Sagre Gofur, I’m a Loser and Desperate Soul. Not all the original but cool 60’s psych.
