Aguirre – Demo (France 2007)

From Aural Innovations #37 (Sep 2007)

A band named Aguirre must have a lot of self confidence. In my world there is only one Aguirre – Klaus Kinski as the ferocious Spanish conquistador ‘Aguirre’ in Werner Herzog’s masterpiece AGUIRRE: THE WRATH OF GOD (1972)! You’ll find great arrangements not unlike Cult of Luna and Neurosis but at the same time stripped down brutality in the vein of Corrupted and Grief. This is not a new formula but these guys have created their own universe, a beautiful wasteland you shouldn’t miss. A fine interview with Aguirre (in English) can be found in the excellent Belgian doom magazine ‘Times of Grace III’ (
