Miasmos - "Towards the Nocturnal Luminary"
(Superbo Recordings 2005, SUP008)

From Aural Innovations #33 (March 2006)

This is a solo project by Italian musician Massimo Pilia and was recorded in late 2004 and features 6 tracks. The music can be described as some sort of lo-fi drone music with samples and strange instruments. It is quite lo-fi at times and very strange. There are some short pieces like the opening piece, "Extra Power Don't Think Just Act". "Stellar Research" features some live manipulations by Tim Wilton and this is super strange stuff, like you are trapped in the space shuttle and pulling in all kinds of strange frequencies and noises from the kosmos! "Neurological Formula" is a nearly 15 minute trip, following long similar lines to the previous track. This is for sure adventurous and fun and it was all improvised using various electronics and guitar (on the last track)! The title track of the CD contains some drum machines or samples and goes for a more deep space area but with a lot of interesting stuff mixed in as well. I think they have some samples at the web site. If not, and you are adventurous, check it out as it is cheap. Please support starving freaks like Massimo!
