Mandra Gora Lightshow Society meet Cherry Overdrive - "Psychotic Beat & Paisley Pop"
(Swamp Room Records 2005, 7")

From Aural Innovations #33 (March 2006)

Swamp Room Records releases some of the coolest vinyl on the planet, and their latest is a split between Mandra Gora Lightshow Society and Cherry Overdrive.

"At the End of the Day" is the first of the Mandra Gora Lightshow Society tracks and recalls the glory days of 60's styled garage psych. It's got a great catchy melody and vocals and killer fuzzed guitars and organ. But the second song, "Start & Stop", is the real monster of the two. It's still got that 60's vibe, but the band really take off into space on this one. And that's one of the things I love so much about Mandra Gora Lightshow Society… they're based in the psychedelia of the old days while at the same time incorporating a space rock sound into their music, starting as a song and then taking off into a cosmic instrumental jam. Hearing this song makes me hunger for a (long overdue) new studio album from these guys.

Cherry Overdrive is an all girl Danish band that Scott has written about a number of times in AI. But this single is the first I've heard from them. "Sharks" is a down 'n dirty hard rocking song with a psychedelic vibe, but also a nice bluesy boogie woogie groove. "Transparent" is more laid back, though it still has a ballsy rocking edge to it and psychy wah guitar. Very cool. I'd love to hear more from these gals.
