Various Artists - "Mysterious Voyages: A Tribute to Weather Report"
(Tone Center 2005, TC 40392)

From Aural Innovations #32 (November 2005)

Weather Report were one of the best jazz fusion (although a bit slick sometimes) groups from the 70s. They put out a lot of records (17 I think) and 24 tracks covered by a great range of artists are represented on this 2-CD compilation. While the first two Weather Report records are the ones I like the best, none of those tracks are heard here, Some of the Jaco Pastorius era stuff is nicely interpreted and with other great players like Wayne Shorter and Alphonso Johnson, great interpretations of their material is also recreated. While I am not familiar with a lot of the artists on the CD the musicianship is totally top notch and the sound is excellent on all the tracks. Some of my favorite covers were by Marcus Miller, Trinity, Tribal Tech, Richard S. and Vibe Tribe, Rocco Zifarella, Jim Beard, Torsten De Winkel, Tony Grey and Alex Gunia. Excellent job Tone Center!
