Bongzilla - "Amerijuanican" (Relapse Records)

From Aural Innovations #32 (November 2005)

This is American band Bongzilla's 4th CD. While I had read about them before, I had never heard their music. Damn it sure is some heavy shit. The vocals are very special. Not sure if you are suppose to laugh or cry when you hear them but you sure can't understand them! This is a total guitar in your face production with the drums and vocals all back in the distance as the riffs try to tear you apart. Slow, heavy, doomy, stoned to the bone riff rock. The closing cover of Muddy Water's Champagne and Reefer has for sure never been interpreted or destroyed in quite this way, that's for sure.
