Wolf Eyes - "Fuck Pete Larsen"
(Wabana 2004, ORE-40)

From Aural Innovations #31 (June 2005)

Originally released on LP only in the summer of 2002, this was Wolf Eyes unofficial follow up to their studio album Dread. I'm not sure if this is a studio recording; it has the sound quality of a bootlegged live recording, which unfortunately leads to a bit of a frustrating listen. The abstract textures and sonic curveballs that Wolf Eyes are famous for tend to get a bit lost in a sea of white noise and jackhammer pounding. To be sure, there are moments of quiet, but you won't hear any of the rhythmic explorations or unusual vocal tracks that Wolf Eyes have experimented around with either. This is a rhythmless squall of noise divided into two very long tracks that kind of stretch out a bit too much for their own good. Nonetheless, the original LP of this Wabana CD re-issue apparently sold out quite quickly, so if you're a Wolf Eyes fan looking for something lo-fi, and even grittier and more abrasive than their usual stuff, this is the one to check out.
