Witchcraft - "Firewood"
(Rise Above Records)

From Aural Innovations #31 (June 2005)

This is the follow up to Sweden's Witchcraft's debut CD from last year, also on Rise Above Records. I am pretty blown away by how well the band achieve a sound from the mid 70's in both the way the CD is produced, as well as the music itself. If you have ever heard the early Pentagram stuff, then you will have an idea of what I am talking about. The band really excels at using very simple riffs to build really excellent songs. The vocalist is quite unique but does not have a great range or voice, but he fits well with the sound that this band has. An early Black Sabbath influence is clearly heard. The band has some very cool riffs and melodies. If you are a fan of the first Black Sabbath record and like Pentagram, you can't go wrong here. I would really like to see this band live. An excellent follow up!
