Qualone - s/t
(Lucid Haze Records 2004, LH000231)

From Aural Innovations #30 (February 2005)

Qualone are a new heavy rock band from Georgia, featuring three members of Plaster. The CD opens up with the rocker "Another Way". The CD has quite a good rock sound and production. This is a band that is not only about riffing. There are a lot of well composed melodic heavy rock tracks here. It takes a few listens for this stuff to grab you. I really liked the phased guitar on "I'll be Gone". "Mind Cloud" is really spaced out at the beginning and ends with some cool dual guitar solos. "Insanity Ride" is where the CD really picks up the pace from the very mid-paced tracks that start the CD. A great riff on this song. "The Thetan Stomp" is a great instrumental track and one of the best on the CD. "Watermelon" features some great drumming and the 7½ minute track, "The Kind", is a great number. The CD ends with the 8 minute "Mushroom Flower" and is quite a cool ballad like track. Pretty damn good original rock and roll.
