Torn - Promo 2003 (Denmark)

From Aural Innovations #29 (October 2004)

Torn is a 4 piece rock band from Copenhagen. The band have existed for a few years but this is really sort of a side project as most all the other members are tied up working in cover bands. Anyway, the band describe themselves as progressive rock, which this most certainly is not. "Optimism" starts the Demo and is very TOOL inspired. It fact it sounds too much like TOOL, riff after riff (no guitar solos). "The Fracture", if it were not for the eastern sounding bit of the guitar, could be very close to the first song. Very TOOL inspired but a bit more hard attacking this one. The song leaves me wanting something (a guitar solo perhaps??, bass solo, something interesting to happen). "Underground" is the most commercial but also original sounding track on the CD.

The band strive to make some heavy rock but lack originality. Sorry guys but better luck next time. Is this what happens when you play in too many cover bands??
