Various Artists - "The Black Wing EP"
(4 Walls Records 2004, 4WR-005)

From Aural Innovations #29 (October 2004)

Packaged in an excellent rough brown cardboard digi like pack including a real black feather inside, this CD features 3 bands, each playing two tracks. The CD begins with "Brains" by with Dirty Bird. Dirty Bird is super raw, ugly music and features Dave from The Glasspack. The vocals of Leland Thurman are totally distorted and in your face as Dave jams in the background. "Little Girl" lets up a bit and is more something you can get yourself into but is also super rawly produced.

Gravitron also lay downs some serious raw, dirty rock and roll, bathed in shit. This is nasty rock! Birdwing closes the CD with two longer tracks. "69’ Firebird" starts very doomy with some cool guitars. These guys are for sure the best band on the disc. I really got into the slow groove of this one. "Let Them Know" closes the CD and is a more upbeat sludge fest and a bit like Kyuss at times.

If you want to hear a sample of 3 bands that lay it all bare to hear them in their rawest most brutal form, then this is for you. Not easy listening rock and roll but worth a try!
