El Caco - "Solid Rest"
(Black Ballon Records)

From Aural Innovations #24 (July 2003)

El Caco hail from Norway (Suburbs of Oslo) and play an angry mix of stoner and metal riff rock but they always have a melodic touch either via the vocal style or use of harmony guitars. The opener, "Marionette", is an angry metal rocker. "H.A.H." is a melodic, perhaps Queens of the Stone Age influenced song, that will likely get radio play if any on this CD do. "A Nice Day" follows and has a great catchy riff and hard driving groove. The band has some great heavy metal riffs but few guitar solos. "Mrs. Coma", is my favourite track on the CD and shows the band taking a slow, heavy, floating groove. A really excellent song. "Get Up" is a foot stomping groove rocker. "Space Station", one of my favourite live tracks, comes across well here but seems a little faster than how they played it on the first LP tour. "Suffocate" rocks like hell and closes the CD. I am not a fan of the vocals by Åsa but he does well with the set of pipes he has. The band delivers a great CD and I think they will have a lot of success.
