Alrune Rod - Loppen, Christiana 12/21/02

From Aural Innovations #22 (January 2003)

What a concert to end the year with. I have many of the bands albums on cassette and have enjoyed their style a lot and after hearing the concert from Loppen last February, I knew that I must see this band. I had been sick most of the week and was only about 60% but I went and boy am I glad. A totally amazing concert. The band have not been active since 1980 and really ended in 1975. A record was recorded under the name Rune in 1980 and features all the guys in the band today except the drummer. All excellent players. The band have played the occasional concert in 1985 and 1990, 1995 and now about 5 or 6 in 2002. They are suppose to be recording a live CD at one of these gigs. Anyway, the band really take you out on a jamming psychedelic rock trip. The band started out very spacey and played a number of long songs with great long guitar playing. Amazing stuff. Even though all the lyrics are sung in Danish, I could understand some but not all, it was powerful stuff. The original founder, who sings and plays bass is looking his years but he sounds great and plays excellent bass.

It was an excellent concert and although I did not feel that well, I enjoyed being transported back to the 70’s when bands played real music and just let the music flow out of their bodies and played, not like today, where almost all the music you hear lacks the feeling and the bands don’t even know what it is to take an adventure in music. These guys are masters. Check the link below for the a set list and photos from the show.
