Damo Suzuki Network - "Metaphysical Transfer"
(DNW 022/023)

From Aural Innovations #21 (October 2002)

This is a double live CD of performances of Damo's band during October 2000. He was backed by some excellent folks such as Len Del Rio and Tommy Grenas, Brandon Kirk, Kevin Lee and Dominik von Senger. I have never heard any of the Network Material before but I had read the reviews of others in Aural Innovations and the recent interview with Damo in Ptolamaic Terrascope magazine #32 and Aural Innovations. As expected, the vocals are very special and rough and intense at times. The band does a great job of playing around Damo on these improvised pieces of music. Many pieces create the same mood as the old early 70's CAN material without sounding like imitations. It takes a bit of time to appreciate the adventures this group of musicians takes you on. I found it a little strange that you never hear the audience and a lot of the tracks are faded out. If you like CAN and the other Damo Suzuki Network releases I am sure you won't be disappointed with this one!
